Side Note: London Blogs (Day 9)

02/24/19

I wake up around 11am, less than five hours of sleep, so to say I’m tired might be an understatement. It’s time to pack and get ready to go to the airport.

Side Note: I should say now that this is a travel day back to LA, so if this doesn’t intrigue you feel free to stop reading. BUT if you want some more airline fun and food reviews then continue on reading!

I check out of the hotel and tube to the airport. As I hand over my Oyster Card back at customer service I am really bummed to be leaving. This city was amazing, and I feel like I just scratched the surface of exploring it. However, I can’t wait to take Emily here when we go on a Euro trip together.

I get through security super quick.

Side Note: England is making the TSA look like amateurs.

I have an abundance of time now so I go over to a restaurant and shoot some texts out to any family or friends that I might have back in the states. I order some pesto mac and cheese, a beer, and a delicious club chicken sandwich.

The perfect combo to cure a hangover if I do say so myself. I polish off the rest of my meal and head to my gate.

I get selected for a random security search before hopping on the flight...oh boy. Maybe that’s why everything was so easy before. BUT, this ended up being nothing then checking my bags and then I was able to get on the plane early. Also I come to find out after they shut the doors that I have the whole row to myself! I have been living in luxury this whole trip so why stop now am I right?

I start off the plane ride by watching Venom. I start to doze off during the movie, so I decide to put it on pause while I get a little more shut eye since I didn’t do that well the previous night.

I rise from my slumber and finish off Venom. I know that it got a bad rap, but I thought the movie was entertaining. Other than being entertaining though, there wasn’t really anything memorable about it, but if Woody Harrelson popping up in the last scene shows anything, maybe the sequel has some promise.

I start watching Beautiful Boy as dinner is being passed out. I ask for Sauvignon Blanc, I’m on Air New Zealand on the way back as well so can’t go wrong there, and I get the chicken curry with lentils and rice. This dish would have had a higher review if I didn’t just have the best Indian food experiences in London, but for airplane food it was great. The quinoa side was still not good as before, didn’t finish it. Cheese, crackers, and dinner roll are staples and delicious as always. And the surprise of the meal was the honeycomb ice cream. The brand name is heavenly honeycomb and does it live up to the name: so. Good.

Alright, back to Beautiful Boy. This movie is one that deserves praise for its acting, editing, directing, and so forth. The only issue I had with it was that the soundtrack was too jarring at points in the film and it completely takes you out of the moments.

Now onto The Sisters Brothers. During the movie I order a mini cookie and tea. Yum.

Side Note: The cookie is made from the same place I got my favorite edible cookie dough and ice cream combo in New Zealand.

I order another mini cookie and some tortilla chips now in order to finish up the film. The Sisters Brothers was well acted, had a good story, but could have been a little bit shorter.

Now, Blade Runner 2049.

Just kidding, quick nap time, exhaustion is coming back after the little bit of wine I drank with dinner.

Now back to Blade Runner 2049.

Overall the film was confusing and didn’t go the direction I was expecting or wanting, ultimately unfulfilling. Really beautifully shot though, I will give it that.

Onto Boy Erased.

Side Note: I am crushing these movies!

Now I am being served a breakfast of some sort with a sandwich, cake, and fruit. Actually, it isn’t a sandwich, but rather a piece of focaccia with mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes which was incredible. The cake was subtle, but good. And the fruit was what you would expect, fruit.

Boy Erased was incredibly shot, edited, acted, and has a great message to boot. This was a top film in my book.

Side Note: Sorry this wasn’t as detailed as the flight to London. It was a little different feeling going to London then coming back.

Although I am leaving London and have now landed back in LA, I am happy the trip has happened and I got to experience such an amazing time abroad. More importantly, I am happy to be back with my family, friends, and Emily in order to get things rolling again in life.

Thanks for reading all these blogs if you have made it this far. I am finishing this up now during a time of crisis and sometimes it is great to relive memories like this when you are down. I hope this helps in bringing back great memories of your own, and that it inspires you to think of hopeful future plans that can be made once we are out of this pandemic. Thank you all for reading and stay safe. (04/10/2020)
